Runaway Truck Smashes Highway Divider in Raebareli, Narrowly Averting Major Disaster and Triggering Long Traffic Snarl
A speeding truck lost control and smashed into the central divider on the Lucknow–Prayagraj highway in Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh, narrowly avoiding a major accident. The crash caused severe traffic congestion near Pragati Puram, prompting swift police action to restore normal traffic flow.
The incident occurred near Pragati Puram under the jurisdiction of the Mill Area police station, a busy stretch of the highway that witnesses heavy vehicular flow throughout the day. According to officials, the truck was moving at high speed when the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to crash into and break a portion of the road divider. Although the impact was severe, no casualties were reported, sparing commuters from what could have turned into a major tragedy.
The damaged divider obstructed the carriageway, leading to a lengthy traffic jam on the highway. Vehicles were left stranded as congestion built up rapidly, severely affecting movement in both directions. Commuters faced significant delays as traffic piled up over the damaged stretch.
Local police and administrative teams rushed to the spot soon after the incident was reported. Traffic personnel worked to manage the congestion and redirect vehicles, while efforts were made to clear the damaged divider and restore smooth movement on the highway. After sustained efforts by the authorities, traffic conditions were gradually brought under control.
The incident once again underscores the risks posed by high-speed driving on busy highways and the importance of strict enforcement of traffic regulations. While prompt intervention by the police prevented further escalation, the disruption caused by the accident highlighted how a single lapse can impact thousands of commuters and bring critical transport routes to a halt.
